Atlas Obscura is a website that serves as an informative catalogue of exotic and unusual attractions found around the globe. Places are provided by users as they participated in the collaboration of the website by sharing their unique experiences or stumble upons. Each place is geo-mapped so other users can browse through and plan a trip to visit themselves. Each ad is an illustrated map of a well-known American city altered to feature fantastical creatures and landscapes. This exaggeration is meant to display to viewers that they don't know their city as well as they think, and there remains hidden gems worth discovering.
